canadian ancestry

canadian ancestry
My family is of canadian decent, but only as recently as my great grandfather. Will this help me?

My family comes from New Brunswick, but only my aunt currently is a citizen and after that, my ancestry as far as Canada goes only starts at my great-grandfather. I’m looking to immigrate to Canada, will this fact help me in the immigration process or should I not bother exploring the documentation of this further?

It wont help you. Citizenship is based on what country you were born in not what country your family was born in.

The only exception to this rule is in the United States if your parents had you in another country other than the country they are citizens of then you have until the age of 18 to decide what country you want to remain a citizen of. I don’t know if this rule applies to other countries or not.
